A Brief Overview
The EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) covers the Nursery and Reception classes. Children develop quickly in the ‘early years’ and early years practitioners aim to do all they can to help children have the best possible start in life.
Staff follow the information in the development matters in the EYFS. We aim to develop the whole child, through offering a range of activities through indoor and outdoor provision. Please visit our Early Years Foundation Stage Class to see our work and activities.
Reading – Children are given opportunities to use phonic knowledge to decode regular words, reading them aloud accurately. They are then given opportunities to handle books and to read and understand simple sentences.
Writing – Children start from mark making to drawing letter shapes. Then use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which they match their spoken sounds. We provide a range of opportunities to write for a purpose.
Speaking and Listening – Opportunities include role play, puppets and circle time.
Mathematics – Children are given opportunities to count reliably from 1- 20, place numbers in order and work with shape and space. Provision is provided both inside and outdoors.
