Healthy Eating at Oakley Cross

In this section you will find out more information about how we promote healthy eating at School.

Please contact us if you require any additional information.

School Meals
School meals are prepared each day at school by our school cooks Mrs Green and Ms Parsons.  Each day we provide a choice of both main courses and desserts. We are conscious of a healthy diet and healthy choices and as such our school meals comply fully with the School Food Standards.  We encourage children to make their own choices and to try new foods.

Please see below for example menus:

Packed Lunches
We have a healthy packed lunch policy and actively encourage parents to send healthy foods. Please take a look at our packed lunch policy and our healthy packed lunch ideas below for a list of foods to ensure you provide your child with a healthy lunch.

Packed Lunch Policy

Snacks
We are involved in ‘The Fruit in School Scheme’. This provides all children with fruit each morning break. Children can of course bring their own fruit to consume if they wish. Please note that sweets, crisps, chocolate and chewing gum are not allowed for break time snacks.

We are also part of the ‘Cool Milk’ scheme and offer milk to every child in school.

Water
Research shows the benefits of children having access to drinking water. It is believed drinking water throughout the day improves alertness, concentration levels and the ability to learn. The school provides each child with water throughout the day.

Snacks (Early Years Foundation Stage)
Nursery and Reception give children a snack each day.  This usually consists of fruit but occasionally will be different foods, linked to topics and themes, to encourage a growing diet.  Milk is ordered for the children to drink every morning.

Please have a read of our ‘school food policy’ and take a look at the ‘Eat Well Plate’ below for more information on how to maintain a healthy and balanced diet.
