School Year 2021 – 2022
World Book Day
This year was World Book Day’s 25th Anniversary. We all made an extra special effort to dress up, as you will see in the photos. We celebrated by taking in part of lots of fun activities. We all especially liked walking down the Oakley cat walk.

Spring Disco
We all enjoyed ourselves at the Spring Disco, it was lovely to see everyone enjoying themselves with the friends. Thankyou to everyone who came, helping us to raise £308 towards school funds.

National Story Telling Week
We spent time during the week looking at traditional stories and sharing them with out peers and writing our own versions. We finished the week by wearing our pjs for bedtime story day. Maple class read bedtime stories to the younger children in the school, which they all loved, and no one fell asleep!

Chinese New Year
To celebrate Chinses New Year, we opened the taster café, we had lots of tasty treats to try. We served vegetable chow mein, egg fried rice, prawn crackers and fortune cookies. There wasn’t many empty plates! Thanks to Tesco for their donations to the café.

Christmas at Oakley Cross
We began our Christmas celebrations this year with a whole school nativity show. We have some fabulous actors and singers in our school. I hope you all enjoyed watching it as much as the children did performing.
Christmas Lunch
Christmas dinner day is always exciting and this year was no different, thankyou to our amazing cooks, it was delicious.
Mini Christmas Fayre
Such a busy day today, this morning we climbed aboard the Polar Express in our pjs of course and had enjoyed popcorn and hot chocolate. Then, after lunch we took turns to visit our mini winter fayre, there were games to play, lucky dips and name the bear.
Christmas parties
Everyone loves a Christmas party, so we made a day just for parties! We played games and danced all day! without a doubt the favourite game was trying to slide an After Eight mint from your nose to your mouth without touching it, give it go, its harder than you think!

Children in Need
We all joined in with Joe Wicks this morning to raise money for children in Need. It was great fun we followed Joe’s lead, we did: press ups, planks, ankle spins and loads more, phew! We raised £126 for such a worthy cause, thankyou to every one for your kind donations.

Everyone enjoyed taking part in todays Judo taster session. It was great fun.

Remembrance Day
Maple and Blossom Class visited the war memorial to plant crosses as a mark of respect to those from the village who lost their lives in past wars.

Art Competition
This term children were challenged with sketching one of our beautiful birds. Well done to everyone who entered, it was a very difficult decision.

Halloween Disco
What a fantastic Halloween Party we had. Dj Dixon and Dj Riley had the tunes ready to spin which got everybody moving. It was great to see everyone dressed up and having fun. Thankyou to Tesco for supplying hotdogs and bread buns.

Goodbye Class of 2021 and good luck in your next adventure. Maple class held their own Award celebrations. Well done to everyone in Maple Class we all wish you well in your new schools, keep smiling and aim high at your new school.

RobinWood
What an amazing time we had at Robinwood. The children took part in some fun but challenging activities, many fears were conquered! We took part in team games, archery, 3 G swing, zip wire, raft building canoeing, knights quest, climbing wall to name just a few and the favourite by far was the Piranha Pool! Each day was started with a full English breakfast, a stop for lunch and dinner, and to finish the day hot chocolate and a biscuit or two. Peter Pan
A huge well done to the stars of Maple Class for their production of Peter Pan. They battled aeroplanes flying above, noisy birds and rain to bring the performance outside for the school and their parents. But the show went on and the cast were fantastic. A big thankyou for those parents who came along to watch the show and endure the rain as well. Here are just a few photos that were taken between the two shows.

Global Wellness day
We have been thinking about eating healthy for global wellness day. Pine Class have been using their cutting, grating and slicing skills to make a stripy salad. Willow Class made a delicious salsa!
Maple Class discussed what would be good for their wellbeing, some children chose to paint or draw whilst others chose their own physical activity.

Race for Life
What a fantastic day! We are so proud of our children, they have gone above and beyond to raise money for Cancer Research. Not only did our children run 1k or 2k, they made the decision to run even further!
Thankyou to everyone for their donations! We raised a massive £1,232.50 including gift aid. It is clear Cancer Research is a charity close to hearts of many in our community.

Go Well Heart Project
We have been invited to take part in the Go Well Heart Project. The project focuses on helping to keep children fit and healthy by giving them resources and challenges to take part in each week. We randomly selected children to take part. The children have sent us some pictures of them taking part in the challenges.

Goodbye Mrs Brannan
To say goodbye to Mrs Brannan we began with a walking assembly! Children shared their favourite memories and read some lovely messages. I’m sure you will agree she’ll be a big miss. On our behalf of pupils and staff, past and present we want to thank Mrs Brannan for all she has done. Oakley Cross won’t be the same without her.
Treat Afternoon
We have had the most amazing treat afternoon! We had a visit from Pete at Circus Sensible, we learned some sensational circus skills! We have honed our hula hooping skills, tried our hands at juggling and even practised some gravity defying plate spinning tricks… check out these brilliant photos of the fun we ‘ve had for our Easter Treat! Oh.. and a visit from the ice-cream man!

Easter Egg Hunt
We had loads of fun today taking part in our Easter Egg hunt. We had to follow and solve the clues to complete the secret word. The clues were hid in some funny places and took team work to find them.

Dukeshouse Wood

We spent today problem solving and flying through the sky on the 3G swing.
Day 2
Another busy day, we’ve flown the sky on zip wires, played laser tag, giant twister, crawled through mud and abseiled. After tea took part in mini Olympics and team games, phew!

The NSPCC came to visit KS1 and KS2 about how to keep themselves safe. Children spoke about worries and trusted adults they could talk to.
