All the children voted for each other to receive a special award and they sang us all a lovely song, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house! Good luck Class of 2017, we all wish you bright and happy futures!

Mary Poppins
maple Class showed us their amazing singing, dancing and acting skills today in theor version of Mary Poppins. It was fantastic! There is only one way for them to go and that’s up, up and away! Well done you were brilliant!

Teddy Bear Picnic
Blossom, Beech and Sycamore Classes all joinde in together for a massive Teddy Bear Picnic, we played rounders and just had fun playing together, it was great! Thanks to everyone who brought in picnic food it was yum!

Oakley Talent Show
Oakley Cross certainly does have talent! We had a fantastic show this afternoon filled with a variety of acts, all planned by the children. We had singing, dancing and even a rectial from the recorder!

Sports Day
What an amazing time we all had taking part! What’s more it didn’t rain! Thank to everyone for coming along to cheer us all on and also to the PTA for providing refreshments.

Summer Fayre

Science Week
To celebrate science week we had a visit form Professor Brainstorm! He showed us some amazing science, a little like magic tricks! He showed us how gravity works with forces, showed us how strong we could be, or not in some cases.

Tennis
A huge well done to our tennis team who came second in the competition today. The team said they had really enjoyed playing and can’t wait until the next round. They will be going to the final next month!

Women’s Refuge
We had some special visitors in school today from the Women’s Refuge. We invited them to come and collect loads of books bought from the money we raised from World Book Day. We asked some of our children to choose the books and to present them to the ladies from the refuge. They were really excited and took the books to give to the children who would love to read them at their centre.

Treat Day
We all had a great treat today, it was fab! The children choose an obstacle course in their pjs with music! It was exciting having races with our friends and even some of the teachers joined in.

Easter Fashion Show
As part of our Easter celebrations we held a fashion show. Some of us made hats while others made outfits. We invited friends and family to come and judge it, and of course the winners all won a big easter egg!

Todays Easter egg hunt was great fun. Parents and teachers all joined in with the children to follow the clues to win a prize!

Mothers Day lunch
To show our mums that they are ‘One in a Million’ we invited them to share our lunch. We even sang a special song to our mums! Thanks to Shelley and Stacey for a delicious lunch and also to everyone who came to enjoy it!
Parents gave us some fantastic feedback, thankyou. You left some lovely comments as you can see from this small selection.

World Book Day
A very strange thing happened in school today, some of our children turned into book characters! We celebrated book day this year by dressing up as our favourite book characters, and Cruella de Vil treated us to story time.
Children who came dressed up paid £1 fine which was used to help raise £101. This money will be used to support the work of a local women’s refuge centres who provide items for children in need. thankyou for your support.

Crazy Creatures
Treat this time was a little scary for some(the adults!) we had lots of scaley and hairy creatures in school. Our children showed how brave they were and over came lots of fears!

Christmas at Oakley Cross
We enjoyed a vast range of Christmas activities this year, from going to the theatre to Santa visiting us with present!

Fun and games and plenty of party food for our Key stage 2 Christmas party.

Blossom Class and Little Acorns had a magical afternoon today visiting Santa. It was amazing!

We held our annual carols in the hall, we had lots of parents/carers come and join us for this special time of year.
Trip to the Theatre
The whole school went on a journey today, all the way to the theatre, oh yes we did! We all enjoyed a wonderful afternoon watching Jack and the Beanstalk.

Whole school performance ‘Home for Christmas’
Children have really enjoyed themselves, showing us their acting and singing abilities, taking part in this years Christmas production. The theme of this production was to highlight homelessness. The drama club and the whole school have worked hard rehearsing and practising the songs.

Children in need
We all went a little spotty for children in need this year to help raise money for an amazing cause. We helped to raise over £149! Fabulous! This money will go to help children access their rights.

Remembrance assembly
Maple Class lead us in a very moving assembly this morning, telling us the story of Harry Patch who was known as The Last Tommy. We held a two minute silence throughout the school at 11 o’clock.

Book Fair
The book fair arrived this week. We held a competition to win a £5 for each of our classes to enter all you had to do was draw a poster telling us all about your favourite book! It was really difficult to choose a winner, but here they are.
We sold loads of books, so it was only fair that the winners helped to choose some new books for the school library.

The Keymaster
Well done to The Drama Group for a fantastic production of the Keymaster. Your abilities to sing dance and act really shone out, to think you have only been practising since September and you were simply amazing.

Halloween Disco
Our Halloween disco was very popular again this year and the children (and teachers) had a fun time. As always, there were some fantastic costumes and excellent special effect make-up. Well done mums and dads!

Harvest Assembly
Thankyou to everyone who came along and joined with us to celebrate this years harvest. We really hope you enjoyed our celebration. Thankyou for all your donations for our harvest table. We will be giving all or our harvest gifts to our local food bank at The Well to help every child ‘eat well’ and enjoy their right to nutritious and healthy food.

MacMillan Coffee Afternoon
We held our big coffee afternoon today in support of Macmillan Cancer Care. This is a charity very dear to a lot of people and a very worthwhile cause. Thank you to all of our parents who entered the great ‘Oakley Bake Off’. We had some stunning efforts which Mary and Paul would have been proud of. After much deliberation, our star bakers are: Fynley & Freya’s mum, James’ gran, Chloe’s nana and Jak and Siena’s mum. Thank you to all of you who came along to support and enjoy our coffee afternoon. We all helped to raise a massive £292!

Toilet twinning
As every child has the right to be safe and to have access to a clean and hygienic place to live, we decided to help raise money for the charity ‘Toilet Twinning’. Thank you very much for supporting this fundraiser, we made a fantastic £125.00, enough to buy two toilets for children and families who don’t yet have clean and hygienic facilities. Thank you to Miss Turnbull for organising this event and for thinking up the grand idea of mummifying teachers. There were some fantastic efforts from our children. European Day of Languages
We celebrated ‘European Day of Languages’ in school today as part of our Rights Respecting work because all the children have a right to a good quality education which teaches them to respect other cultures and languages(article 29). Each class focused on a different European country and spent the day learning more about the language and culture of that country. Some classes cooked or tasted food and a dance teacher worked with classes to learn traditional dances. We learnt so much and had a lot of fun too!
