Brass Band Festival
Our final day of term ended with some entertainment from a brass band from Spain. The children were clapping and dancing along.
End of school year treat
What a great way to end the school year. Water war broke out at Oakley Cross with todays mammoth water fight! Our summer behaviour treat erupted into a fight to the end! Children against children, children against adults, no prisoners were taken and most of all nobody stayed dry!

Time capsule
A few months ago we were asked to create something to go into a ‘time capsule’. We placed children’s work, photos and their thoughts about the school in 50 years time! We were asked to attend a special ceremony to place our Time Capsule inside the village phant, it will stay there for 50 years!

Teddy Bears picnic
Today was the day for a teddy bears picnic! Blossom, Beech and Pine Classes joined together and had a fab time playing with their teddies and friends. We all sat inside for food just in case it rained.

Oakley Cross Talent Show
Wow! Move over Britons got talents, Oakley Cross Talent show had everything and more! Simply fantastic. There was a wide variety of acts from singing, dancing, hula hopping, animals noises to guitar playing!
….. and the winners were FANTASTIC!
Summer Term most improved readers
Well done to our most improved readers for this term, well done. Everyone choose their own book to buy and enjoyed hot chocolate with marshmallows!

On Safari
Wow! This was the very first Key Stage 1 end of your performance and they were amazing! They went On Safari, a story about friendship, they used big loud voices and fantastic singing voices. Well Done everyone!

First Aid workshops
In response to suggestions from our suggestion box children in years 2 – 6 received first aid training. Thank you to St Johns Ambulance and The Go Group for organising the workshops. Willow class have been leaning what to do in an emergency and how to administer first aid with Mrs Geraty. Eric from St Johns ambulance was very impressed with their knowledge!
Years 4 and 6 enjoyed their first aid workshop, learning how to check an unconscious casualty, to put them in the recovery position and bandage wounds.

Sports Day
What an amazing sports day we had! the children took part in a carousel of activities followed by finals in skipping and running. Red team won! But it was very close as always.

WOW! What a day. Thankyou to Och and his team for coming in and giving us this opportunity. The children spent time digging and discovering all sorts of fossils.

The Great Get Together
A massive thankyou t everyone who joined. It was lovely to see so many faces. Thankyou for all the suggestions you gave us, we will discuss with staff how we can implement your ideas. We hope you found our visitors informative and that the information from your children about healthy packed lunches gave you some new ideas.

Soccer Aid Playground Challenge
Today we filled our boots! Thankyou to everyone who helped us raise money for UNICEF’s ‘Soccer Aid’ …. the children took part in the football obstacle course! The children enjoyed taking part in the obstacle course and showed good control and resilience and most importantly they all had fun!

Healthy Eating Week
Sycamore Class made potato and sweetcorn fritters with Mrs Lowrie for an alternative healthy snack.
Willow Class spent the morning cooking a healthy pasta sauce. It was delicious! Some children even offered to cook for the whole school!
Beech Class tried a healthy snack today, they had dippy eggs with brown bread soldiers. Everyone tried them and loved them and all are showing a good understanding of how to be healthy and why it is important.
As part of healthy eating week, we tried some new healthy treats that we grew ourselves in our Oakley Garden! We tried home-grown radishes! Well done for trying new things.

Tennis festival
Well done to some of the children from Willow Class who took part in a tennis tournament at Bishop Barrington. We played 5 games, winning 4 and only losing 1! Overall we came second. Well done and a huge congratulations.

Edinburgh
Our visit to Edinburgh has been amazing, we loved Pizza Express, we really loved Wicked, breakfast was amazing, we had great fun just having fun! The Zoo was fantastic and we especially enjoyed hearing all about the monument to Greyfriars Bobby, the famous story of a loyal dog who sat next to his owner’s grave for years! He is a few more pictures from our trip to Edinburgh.

Breakfast Club Launch
Our breakfast club is now sponsored by Greggs and the County Durham Housing Group and is therefore free for our children to attend. We offer a variety of cereals, toast and fruit. It is a good opportunity for our children to join in some games and meet up with friends before school. Come along and give it a try.

Skip 2B Fit
Everyone really enjoyed their sessions with Dave this morning, even parents and teachers joined in! Everyone worked hard to do better than before, showing resilience and a great attitude in trying to beat their scores. It was good fun! Watch out for more about Skip 2B Fit.

We had a visit from Tidy ted! Beech Class did some litter picking around the school. They were brilliant and really helped to tidy up our school.

Pollard and the Boar
Blossom, Beech and Pine classes enjoyed a story telling session this morning from Auckland Castle. The knight Pollard and the Boar. Everyone enjoyed this famous local story using the puppets to re-enact it.
We made our own mitre hats, just like the Bishop of Durham in the story.

Sports Relief
A massive well done and thankyou to the children of Oakley Cross, we rasied £90!
We have really enjoyed Sports Relief this year. Keys Stage 2 headed outside for a Sports relief workout!
We raced Miss O’Neil and Mr Smith around the field, children won of course!

Science Week
Everyone had fun this week, it was science week! We LOVE science! Sycamore investigated how far cars can be rolled and whether the contents of each makes a difference. Later in the week, they explored different ways to free a toy figure from a block of ice. Good investigations and interesting discussions.

Famous place competition
Over the last few week, children have brought in their pictures of famous places or buildings. We had Big Benn, The Golden Gate Bridge, The Great Pyramids, The Taj mahal and loads more. Here are some of the children with their pictures, they are fab! Everyone who entered won a pen, and there were loads more prizes too.

Cross Country Event
we took part in a Cross Country event along with loads of other schools. It was very soggy! It didn’t dampen our efforts in any way. 24 children from Oakley Cross took part from years 3, 4 and 5.

Jack and The Beanstalk
This years christmas performance was amazing. For a change we performed a traditional tale, with special effects! The drama club and the whole school showed off their wonderful acting and singing skills.

Dukeshouse Wood
What a great time everyone had this year at Dukeshouse Wood. We had such busy days! We took part in Activities such as mini olympics, climbing wall, 3G swing, quad bikes, archery and the night line in the dark! We were yo from 7:30 until 10:30 finishing the evening with a campfire and toasted marshmallows, fab!

Anti-Bullying Week
Our Rights Respecting Ambassadors spent the morning at Evergreen Primary in preparation for anti-bullying week. They had a great time. They made delicious looking biscuits and were amazing representatives of our school.

Reading Hub Grand opening
We had an exciting morning in school as we had some very special visitors along to officially open our reading hub today. PCSO Bree, PCSO Atkinson, PC Graham, PC Irvin and PS Turner all joined us in assembly to talk about reading and their other interests with the children. They shared some of our stories and then PS Turner officially cut the ribbon and opened the reading hub for us. I am sure our children are going to have many hours of reading fun in our fantastic new hub. A huge thank you goes to Mrs Wilkinson and PCSO Bree for organising this visit.

World Biggest Coffee Afternoon!
Thankyou for your support of this event this year. Your generosity has helped raise £310.75 for Macmillan Cancer Support. We hoped you enjoyed at the lovely treats made by children and parents as well as taking five minutes to relax and chat.
Our master baker this year was James’ Gran – congratulations on winning the Great Oakley Bake off. in second place was Fynley and Freya’s mum and in third place Dalton’s mum. Well done all!
