West Auckland in Bloom
They lovely ladies from West Auckland In bloom came into school today to work with Beech and Pine Class. We planted different seeds, flowers and vegetables in the raised beds and then flowers and poppy seeds in our memorial garden.
Maple Class helped to plant some seeds along the pathway to school.

We had some special visitors in school today. Jet and Ben the police dogs came to teach us about Stranger Danger and keeping safe. We listened carefully and even gave Jet and Ben a pat

End of Spring Term Treat
Beech and Pine classes really enjoyed their end of term treat, they voted for a Teddy Bear Picnic, a lovely way to end the term.
Maple Class enjoyed their treat time on the soft play.

Drama club are dressed and ready for their musical play about homelessness. Follow the story of a homeless girl who meets and becomes friends with three children.

End of term Superstars

A Book in a Jar

World Book Day
A big thank you to all the family members who joined us today for DEAR time, the children look fantastic in their costumes and enjoyed talking about their favourite books and characters. Can you spot any well-known characters?

Fairtrade Fornight
Our Rights Respecting families focused on Fairtrade Fornight. Antarctica looked at cocoa researching where it comes from and even making chocolate brownies… yum yum!
Africa went bananas, finding out where they came from and why fairtrade is so important. The children worked together to make information posters and baked some most delicious banana muffins.
Australia were looking at coffee and where it comes from. We found out where they are grown. how they change colour and made some delicious mocha cupcakes.

Internet safety
Our local PCSOs visited year 5 and 6 to talk about staying safe online. They talked about only messaging people who you knew and the dangers of making friends online with strangers. The school will continue to run E-Safety sessions for our children.

Christmas Foodbank Donations
Food parcels were dropped off today at The Well. Thankyou to everyone who sent in donations.
Superstars of the term
The superstars of the term award winners had a special treat. We all went along to Molly’s Tea Rooms for hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream and chocolate cake, it was delicious! What a super treat it was.

Kitty Whittingham
We hoped you enjoyed this years Christmas performance of ‘Kitty Whittingham’. The children have worked really hard to learn all their lines and the song. They were fantastic and we think this showed in the wonderful singing and acting. A Massive well done and a special thankyou to Mr. Robinson and the Drama Club.

Weardale Railways
Back in September, Maple Class travelled on the Weardale Railway as part of their Evacuee day. Our exploits are now featured in the railway’s own magazine. Well done to the children for getting into the spirit and character, and thankyou also to the staff of Weardale Railways.

Our budding news reporters featured in this weeks Teesdale Mercury following a visit from one of their reporters to look at the new school newspaper. Well done to the children.

Children in need or ‘Pudsey Day’ in Beech Class. We loved making our Pudsey Masks.

DukesHouse Wood
After arriving safe and well, we had our beds to make! without a moment to lose we went out on our first activity, Fencing, followed orienteering and an obstacle course.
We’re up and ready for another fun packed day. A big breakfast should help!
Laser tag, 3G swing, archery and nightline. It’s been a fun packed day so far!
Our last activities of the day.. problem solving and zip wire. We had a great time and should hopefully have a really good sleep tonight! Thank you to the team at Dukeshouse Wood for making our stay action packed and lots of fun!

Anti-bullying Week
The Oakley Cross Rights respecting Ambassadors invited a group of children from Evergreen Primary to join our work on Anti-Bullying Week. All the children had a lovely afternoon joining in with craft activities and story time.

Remembrance Assembly
Maple Class delivered a moving Remembrance Assembly today as a mark of respect for the 100 year anniversary of the end of the First World War.
After Their Remembrance Assembly Maple Class walked to the war memorial and placed crosses – one for each of the brave soldiers who fought and died in one of the two world wars.

Halloween Disco
It was fright night at our Halloween Disco. Warning!! Be afraid!
EYFS had a great time at their Halloween Party. Everyone looked so spooky. There was apple bobbing, dancing, pumpkin carving, potion making and we even had time to play pass the parcel. We had a spooky snake and some yummy treats to take home.

Harvest Assembly
Well done to all the children for a fantastic harvest assembly led by Sycamore Class. Some super singing and some fab dance moves. A huge thankyou to parents and families for their generous donations to our harvest table which was passed on the well earlier today to share as needed in the community.
Maple Class took the Harvest donations along to the food bank at The Well. All your kind contributions were warmly received. Thankyou once again.

Opening of the outside Gym
We welcomed Kelly-Jo Robson, a weightlifter for Team GB who officially came tom open our new outdoor Gym. Kelly-Jo met our new sports leaders before talking to the whole school in a special assembly about her sporting achievements, including representing England at the Commonwealth Games.

European Day of Languages
We celebrated European Day of Languages. In sycamore Class we focussed on Spain. We tried chorizo and made patatas bravas and paella, most of us enjoyed them.
We also welcomed visitors from King James School who delivered language sessions. Beech and Pine Class enjoyed some French with the help of Sooty and Sweep. Willow, Rowan and Sycamore tried some Spanish whilst Maple enjoyed some German.

Box2BFit
What a day! Children at Oakley Cross took part in a Box2BFit workshop today and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Dave was very impressed with their behaviour and effort.
