Class Story

Our class story this term is The Twits. We are enjoying it so far ….

Mr and Mrs Twit are extremely nasty, so the Muggle-Wump monkeys and the Roly-Poly bird hatch an ingenious plan to give them just the ghastly surprise they deserve!

Science

Article 28: You have the right to a good quality education.

We really enjoyed exploring our forest area in Science looking for micro-habitats. We found lots of minibeasts living under rocks and logs, in the minibeast hotel, on leaves and trees and in the grass.

Computing

Article 13: You have the right to find out things and share what you have found with others.

We’ve loved using the ChatterKid app in computing to create our own talking polar animals. We had to search for a suitable image to copy and paste using the Swiggle search engine then added a mouth and recorded ourselves. Unfortunately they won’t play on the class page but your child can show you on their Seesaw page.

P.E.

Article 29: Your education should help you use and develop your talents and abilities.

In P.E. we have been learning to play Kick Rounders and Three Touch Ball, we had to think about rules and tactics so we could play well as a team. We also practised using different skills at the Multi-skills festival at St John’s Secondary School.

PSHCE

Article 13: You have the right to find out things and share your opinion with others.

During our geography topic on the polar regions we talked about global warming and the effect it is having on these regions. We conducted an experiment to observe what is happening and thought about what we can do to help prevent this.

Geography

Article 13: You have the right to find out things and share what you think with others.

Our class assembly was all about ‘Our Wonderful World’ which we have been learning about in geography. We really enjoyed sharing our learning about continents, oceans and climate. We even sang some songs to teach everyone about the impact of global warming.

Our Class Charter

As a Rights Respecting School each class has a charter which they agree to follow throughout the year. We all signed the charter.

 Class Story

Our first class story of the year has been George’s Marvellous Medicine. We have loved listening to it as it was really funny and a bit disgusting!

Most grandmas are kind and helpful ladies. Not George’s grandma. She’s a grumpy and grizzly old grouch and George wants to teach her a lesson. So when it’s time for her medicine, George concocts a bubbling, frothing, marvellous mixture, which is guaranteed to send her through the roof . . .

Christmas Party

Article 31: You have the right to play and rest.

We had a brilliant time at our Christmas party with Beech class. We showed off our fantastic dance moves, brought in some treats from home to eat and played lots of games together. It was great fun!

DT

Article 28: Every child has the right to an education

We have really enjoyed making our own delicious Biscuit Bears and healthy wraps. To make our bears we had to read instructions, measure ingredients and decorate them in different ways.

Our healthy wraps involved chopping, peeling and grating.

Geography

Article 28: Every child has the right to an education

We used maps to help us label the continents of the world, and enjoyed learning about the different continents – the weather, houses and landmarks.

Science

Article 28: Every child has the right to an education

We enjoyed exploring materials and their properties, thinking about how they are suitable for different purposes. We then investigated which materials would be most suitable to use for the roof of our Lego house. We used our Super Girl enquiry skills to make sure it was a fair test. We worked in groups to test each material.

History – The Great Fire of London

Article 28: Every child has the right to an education

We have really enjoyed finding out about an event from the past. We wrote newspaper recounts and diary entries pretending we were in the great fire. In Art we created our own charcoal Tudor houses thinking carefully about the lines and shading, and in computing we recorded interviews with eyewitnesses from the Great Fire.

Art

Article 29: Education must develop every child’s talents and abilities to the full.

We created Art sculptures in the style of Andy Goldsworthy. This linked to our Science work on natural and man-made materials. We enjoyed exploring the school grounds to find natural materials to create our own pieces of Land Art.

P.E.

Article 29: Education must develop every child’s talents and abilities to the full.

We loved playing Piggy in the Middle, we played this in teams using our throwing and catching skills. We had to dodge and use tactics to make sure we kept the ball.

We used the geocache devices to try to find letters hidden around the school grounds, it was challenging but good fun! We also had to complete some team challenges in our OAA lessons, getting the hoops across the river without touching them with our hands, and we worked together to create letters. Can you guess what they are?

We created our own sequences in gymnastics putting together a balance, travel, jump, roll. We evaluated each others performances.

Curriculum Map 2018-2019 Pine Class

Look at our windmills. We designed and made them thinking about a strong base and a sail that moves. We chose different themes for our windmill.
