As a result of joining the programme last term and the follow up assembly(where both parents and governors attended), our attempts to lower our carbon footprint have begun.
A traffic light colour coding system has been put in place with all the light switches in the school.
- Red – Don’t use it
- Orange – Think about whether you really need it on
- Green – Go Ahead
Eco Bear and Eco Mole have been introduced to the children and have started to reward classes by being extra vigilant with their energy use. They leave green footprints! The class that has the most footprints over a fortnight has the bears in their room for the following week. This is a new initiative which is in the early stages. So far the metre readings don’t suggest any impact, however there has been a lot of construction work over the past few months. This will only be evident after a run of representative weeks.
The 12th March is the beginning of Waste Week so we’re going to be busy trying to raise the profile of waste and recycling. We already have compost bins in the school grounds to put our fruit waste but there’s so much more to do ! See how we get on…
