ECO Club – ECO Assembly

The Eco Committee delivered an assembly to tell us all about fair trade.

Jake told us that:

Some people still don’t know what fair trade is. Last week at the tuck shop someone still thought all of the money went to school. It doesn’t and hopefully today will remind you where it does go.

So essentially what this means is – this Dubble bar is 70p – this sounds expensive BUT this makes sure that everyone involved in the process of making this bar gets a fair wage…. Including the farmers who grow the raw material – the cocoa, the sugar, – they get a fair amount of money for what they have grown. It sounds like a normal thing to do – BUT IT DOESN’T ALWAYS HAPPEN.

So for example – the juice- 60p- sounds expensive ….but that’s because you know they’re getting a FAIR WAGE

The geo bar – 50p – sounds expensive….but that’s because you know they’re getting a FAIR WAGE.
Class 4 then sang us their fairtrade song.

Lewis told us:

….. It’s not just Fairtrade in our school, it’s all over ….in the supermarkets. If you see the Fairtrade logo remember these products help the farmers and communities by giving a fair wage.
