ECO Club – Recycling

Both last and the beginning of this term, the Committee have had 2 school assemblies. This looked at the issue of recycling and the impact it has on the earth. The responses of the children was fabulous. As a result of their ideas the following has happened and is now in place:

  • A recycling wheelie bin has been purchased and has collections every Thursday.
  • In all classrooms there is a 3 bin system, landfill, recycle and compost.

All children have been aware of what waste goes where. Key Stage 2 had an assembly using e-zine from the Pod. The committee then went to Key Stage 1 rooms and disseminated this information. The compost bins are collected by the children and emptied into 1 of 2 compost bins outside. These are situated at the front of the premises on our woodland area, the other on the school playing fields by the pencil bin.

The main objective is to reduce landfill and increase our recyclable and renewable waste. We intend to reduce out main wheelie bins to 1, halving our landfill waste. To date the feedback from the caretaker is a positive one.
