What is bullying?
At Oakley Cross we think it is important children understand what bullying is when a person is hurtful or unkind to someone else, on purpose and more than once. Bullying can be done by one person or by a group of people and can be towards one person or a group of people. A useful way to remember bullying is:

Types of bullying:
- Emotional- being unfriendly, excluding tormenting (e.g. hiding books, threatening gestures)
- Physical- pushing, kicking, hitting, punching or any use of violence
- Verbal- name-calling, sarcasm, spreading rumours, teasing
- Cyber- all areas of internet, i.e. email, internet chat room misuse. Mobile threats by text messaging and calls. Misuse of associated technology, i.e. camera and video facilities.
Oakley Cross Guardians
We have established a Guardian system across KS2. Children are selected for being good role models. They then attend a day of training. This training includes a discussion about what bullying is and what they could do to help. There are around twelve guardians in total (comprising girls and boys). The guardians support children with fall outs in the playground, scaffolding discussions and resolving issues. Guardians then report any incidents to a member of staff who will follow up and ensure all involved are supported.
Anti-bullying week in November
Every year we celebrate anti-bullying week. This year out Guardians wrote a new Anti Bullying policy and each class completed work based on a text. We continued to work with Evergreen.
